The security likely to be provided by any lock can usually be estimated by considering the weight and thickness of the lock and its purchase price. If it's thin and light and doesn't cost much, then at best it is a deterrent. If it's a little thicker and heavier it will also cost a little more and will be more secure. This progressive security level continues right through to the thicker, heavier "U" locks which offer the highest security. 

The Tioga 6mm combo lock is one of the lower end locks, but given its light weight it is ideal for kids who ride their bikes to school. They already carry enough weight in their monsterous back packs without anothe kilo or two of lock! Most schools have a relatively secure bike parking option and a lighter weight lock like this is usualy sufficient security.
