So, why get an Indoor Bicycle Trainer?

Bike trainers, Fluid trainers, Mag trainers, Home trainers, Wind Trainers, Rollers. All are a variation of a theme designed to allow a cyclist to cycle indoors when unable to do so outdoors due to time or weather constraints. Rollers are a different unit, but the others, although they are all different, generally are commonly called wind trainers. When first invented 20 or so years ago the resistance was provided by fans which displaced air, which in turn created a draft, hence the term wind trainer. In recent years, the fan type resistance unit has been superseded by magnetic and fluid units.

Suitable for most styles of bike, they are a great way to get your cycling workout when you don't want to or can't get outdoors. One added benefit is that there are no downhills or tailwinds, so a 30 minute ride is actually 30 minutes of exercise. Simply place the trainer in front of the TV, clamp your rear wheel and enjoy your favorite program while you exercise. Rollers are a little trickier to ride, but are a great training device for those wanting to improve balance and cadence while getting a workout.
