Schwinn Road Bike
Schwinn Road Bike.
The Schwinn Bicycle Company was founded by German-born mechanical engineer Ignaz Schwinn in Chicago in 1895, and became the dominant manufacturer of American bicycles through most of the 20th century. Schwinn's new company coincided with a sudden bicycle craze in America and Chicago became the centre of the American bicycle industry, with thirty factories turning out thousands of bikes every day. Bicycle output in the United States grew to over a million units per year by the turn of the century. The fortunes of Schwinn and the bicycle industry in general fluctuated over the years, with the advent of motor cars and cycles, the 2 World Wars, the great depression, and the cyclic popularity of bicycle riding, but as many companies bowed to financial pressure and closed, Schwinn kept on supplying bikes to generations of Americans.
An iconic name in America, Schwinn is less well known here, with only a small part of their range being made available to the Australian market. Schwinn produce a range of bikes in the style of those available around the 1960's. Retro, but with modern components. The best of both worlds.
