It is ideal for a smaller child, or for riding along bike paths and paved surfaces where pushing an off road tyre is just a waste of energy. Most suburban areas have plenty of bike paths and it is rare to need to venture off into true off-road conditions. The gears are Shimano and it has 21 speeds, more than adequate for most kids.If your child will be likely to go exploring a conventional mountain bike may be better.
