Product Information
Giant Roam XR W.
There are a large range of female specific bikes available from Giant, as they have been at the forefront of the movement to get more ladies riding bikes, and recognised that in order to succeed they needed to build the bike to suit the lady rather than expect the lady to adapt to the bike. Hybrid bikes have been a staple of the bike market for many years now, evolving into the fairly staid, comfortable style of bike like the Giant Cypress. Fantastic for many people who's comfort is the main buying criteria. But some people want something a bit sportier, but still with 700c wheels for speed and widish tyres for stability. A bike that is pretty fast but is rugged enough to handle some trails and paths. Something like a cross between a Cypress style hybrid and a Cross City style flat bar road bike. But not one that will make them look like a grandma.
Giant have recognised the growing interest in this style of bike and for the 2012 range have introduced the Roam range of bikes which will fill this void very nicely. The Roam is a bike that may well spend most of its time on road as a commuting bike, but will prove to be far more comfortable than the low posture positioning required from a road bike and yet not all that much slower. Road bikes are great for speed and distance, but if you like to ride on trails and dirt once in a while, the narrow tyres of a road bike aren't that suitable. Whereas the Roam has the perfect mix of stability, rugged durability, sporty riding position and can even be a bit of fun if you consider that it isn't all that much different from a 29er mountain bike. Just with narrower tyres.
Such a versatile bike, the Roam rides well on roads and can take curb jump every now and then as well as some slipping and sliding if you push it hard on the cycle paths. Giant have done a really good job selecting the most suitable components, with 700c wheels and tyres that are wide enough with some tread for average trails, but narrow enough for good road speed, the Roam is a bike for both worlds of cycling and with 3 sizes in the ladies range, the Roam will suit the riding situations and needs of many riders. With 27 speed gearing the Roam really is a go anywhere bike and could also be considered as a pretty good touring option. Not for hardcore mountain trails. Not for racing along Beach Road. But perfect for that in between riding many of us do. Some off road, some on. Some slower riding but also times when it's fun to go a bit faster.
The womens Roam XR is a lightweight, fast, hybrid style bike that has 27 easy to use gears, which will be "just the ticket" for many ladies who occasionally "feel the need for speed", but need to get it from the same bike they ride on a day to day basis.
