Giant Boulder 4 2012

Giant Boulder 4 2012

Product Information

Giant Boulder 4 2012

The Giant Boulder 4 over the past couple of years has proven to be "just what the doctor ordered" for many bike buyers.

We often have people come into the store uncertain as to what type of bike they really need, or even what type of use they are likely to ask of it. They know that they need a bike. It doesn't really need suspension for they will probably spend most of their time on bike paths or the streets. It needs to have easy to use gears because they have had bad experiences in the past or they don't feel that comfortable with 21 gears. It needs to be pretty cheap, because they are uncertain just how much use it will actually get despite all good intentions. But it needs to be decent quality because they don't want to have to replace it. These are all common requests and fortunately we have a bike that fits the bill.

The Giant Boulder 4 is a mountain bike, but without suspension forks, which keeps the overall weight down a bit as well as the price. The weight is also aided by the alloy frame and wheels, which help to ensure a more enjoyable ride thanks to the ease that this lighter weight brings to pedalling. The Boulder does have 21 easy to use gears, which are "indexed" which means that the lever clicks into gear so that the rider, even if inexperienced can change gears confidently. There is no need for trepidation as it really is easy to do, and the wide gear range means that even new riders who aren't yet "bike fit" can get up most hills with ease.

Likewise, the braking is super easy thanks to the efficient "V" brakes which are so efficient and require much less hand pressure than older bikes you may have used and is a real confidence booster for a lot of riders. Confidence can also be gained from the stability offered by the 26" wheels and the widish tyre which means the bike has a good solid grip on the ground and is unlikely to slip and slide on gravel etc.

The Boulder 4 comes in models for both women and men and in a range of sizes suitable from an extra small for a tallish 10 year old to ride to school right up to an extra large suitable for a retired AFL player who's looking for some low impact exercise.

With full warranty and 12 months free servicing, the Boulder 4 is a great alternative to buying something second hand, and probably exactly the right bike for many recreational riders who need the transport or want the exercise without having to make a huge investment.

Another bike that you may compare it with is the Centurion Backfire 1-V on sale at $329
