GT Zaskar Comp 2011.
The GT Zaskar Comp is part of GT's range of bikes aimed at the entry level racing market or those who appreciate the lighter weight and higher quality found in race bikes. The primary reason for the lighter weight is the frame. It is made using 6061 aluminium tubing which has been hydro-formed to increase strength and remove the need for external gussetting (which adds weight and does not harden the material). The frame tends to be relatively long, so it is not the ideal recreation bike for cruising along sitting relatively upright, but if you wish to step on the gas and push the bike hard, it loves it. The flay bars and stem also compliment the aggressive frame geometry.
This great frame has then been fitted with a range of race quality components such as a Shimano SLX and Alivio which includes front and rear derailleurs, shift levers, cassette and chain. The hydraulic disc brakes are Avid Elixir 3, another popular brake. Avid Juicy 3's have a great feel, it is nice and progressive and can apply heaps of stopping power. They are a good choice for this bike.Add to this a pair of tough disc specific wheels, Rock Shox Recon Race Silver forks and other quality components and you soon realise that this is a great bike and ideal for some real off road use. It is not just a bike that looks as though it could be ridden off road.
