Sugoi Hotshot II Jersey

Sugoi Hotshot II Jersey

Product Information

 Sugoi Hotshot II Jersey.

Sugoi make lots of clothing for extreme conditions for places like Canada and Japan where the winters are much colder than ours. We benefit though as their garments are sensationally warm.

Read this review for the experience of an actual Hotshot wearer.

"What can be said once you have been treated to a simple honest product which performs precisely as it has claimed it would? I would guess that I should say that The Sugoi Hot Shot Jersey, lives up to its press!

When I first unpacked the Hot Shot (delivered in Gray and Black) I wasn't certain about the fabric. The outer material seemed reminiscent of the scratchier early polyesters, although much more compliant and stretchable. But when my hand slipped inside well... it was another thing entirely! The FinoTherm lining is not only warm wicking, and breathable. but it is as snuggly as a soft baby fleece. I immediately slipped it on just to feel the comfort. Riding would not be for a few days yet, although I was tempted to wear it around the house or possibly snuggle in for a quick nap!

Our first trial ride for the Hot Shot came about on Halloween which dawned brisk and very breezy. I was honestly worried about whether or not the Jersey would be warm enough (especially in view of the wind) but the Hot Shot proved more than equal to the task. The fleece like aspect of the FinoTherm lining is immediately warm. It is not like taking a cold jacket from the closet and having to warm it up with your body heat. The jersey just feels warm immediately. And, in spite of being breathable it breaks the wind nicely.

The day warmed, as we spun around Manhattan, to the point where I actually shed the jersey for a simple cotton t-shirt. But, and it is a huge but, I never sweated to any degree that I noticed, or perhaps more accurately, sweat never accumulated on my person or clothing. I am certain that there was some perspiration generated by my body, but I was never aware of any. The jersey wicks with no appreciable cooling or wetness.

The next trial run came a week later in the hills of Connecticut. Again the day began chilly with a promise of warming, and I considered packing another t-shirt, just in case. But I was so comfortable in the Hot Shot the week before, that I saw no real need to worry about overheating. Even though, as it turned out, we basically turned out of the Parking lot in Newtown, Connecticut and started climbing. Seems like we climbed the rest of the day! But, the point is that never, I repeat never did I feel any sweat or dampness, wind or chill, overheating, or discomfort the entire ride. Even though I later noticed that my helmet straps were white with salt. So, the only conclusion I can draw is that this jersey works!

I would venture to state that this is the real challenge of an Autumn sport specific clothing line, to keep the athlete warm, when it is cooler, and dry and cool when it is not. The Sugio Hot Shot manages this nicely.

Fit, I did find the tailoring in the sleeves a bit looser than I would like and the Zipper front does a little weird thing over my ample belly, but hey! I am no Michealangelo's David! So, I guess it fits well enough! But I would like the sleeves a tad longer and a tad tighter, and I would like to see the zipper lie flatter, but then maybe I am just a weird shape. Besides their ad clearly states (Semi-Fitted) So, try it on for yourself! Color, ok this particular selection (Cement) is a bit drab in Bicycle fashion terms but there are plenty of other colors to choose from! Red (Arrow), Black (Black this would be my choice), and Blue (Bic). Plus aside of the fit, the rubberized elastic waist band makes this baby cling like mad and not ride up. Fitting tighter, and a different color, I would give it a ten"!
