Giant Anthem X1 2012
It's difficult to decide which feature to describe first with regard to the 2012 Giant Anthem X1.
Perhaps the Maestro rear suspension is as good as any, as it is one of the features that really sets Giant dual suspension bikes apart from other brands. Unlike many of these brands, pedaling efficiency is maintained whether you’re sprinting up a climb or coasting through a rock garden, Maestro Suspension doesn’t react to your pedaling power and doesn’t affect your pedaling efficiency. The Maestro system is active on all surfaces from high-frequency trail vibrations to heavy-hitting compressions, Maestro Suspension is able to soak up the full spectrum of trail impacts. Braking isn't affected by suspension movement nor is the suspension effected by braking as even under full braking forces, Maestro Suspension remains fully active and unaffected.
The delightful ALUXX SL frame is the result of over 3 decades of innovation, experimentation and evolution. From the microscopic manipulation of the atomic grain structure to the hydro formed tube shapes, Giants in house manufacturing capabilities mean each of the production processes is closely monitored ensuring every bike meets the highest standards. The ALUXX SL has the highest strength to weight ratio available and with state of the art construction techniques you know you are riding the the finest aluminium MTB frame available.
These 2 are the basis of an Anthem X. What makes it an X1 is the components selected to complete the package. As in all Giant models as the suffix numeral gets lower (i.e. 1) the quality gets higher, so befitting its designation as an X1 this bike is fitted with some of the best and most reliable components currently available.
The critical drivetrain components are Shimano XT which is the "bees knees" of bike components only surpassed by XTR which dwells in the domain of the very wealthy. With other high end parts such as Avid Elixir brakes, Fizik saddle, Giant Connect and Contact accessories and Giant P-XC2 performance wheels with Schwable Racing Ralph tyres.
For a tad under $3000 this is a lot of bike for the money and should satisfy the demands of the most serious racer or discerning recreational buyer.
