The Dutch registered Rabobank professional cycling team is one of the longest running teams on the World circuit. With over 500 wins in the past 15 years Rabobank have also been one of the more successful and have for the past 4 years chosen Giant as their bike supplier. Interestingly Rabobank have for many years had a strong Australian connection with Robbie McEwan, Mathew Hayman, Graeme Brown, Will Walker, Michael Mathews and in season 2012 Mark Renshaw, all having been on the payroll.
The Rabobank team bike is a TCR Advanced SL ISP, which is the culmination of the resaearch and developement from designers and engineers at Giant and the input and co-operation from the Rabobank professionals who continually strive to find that little bit extra to put themselves ahead of the pack. The team has been invaluable with regard to providing the stimulus to allow Giants free thinking engineers to develop some of the most innovative and cutting edge responses to areas where they sought improvement. This continual innovation and improvement flows through the range, so every cyclist can share the advantage the Rabobank guys have over their opponents.
The Advanced SL ISP frame is made from the highest performance T-800 carbon fibre. The method of construction varies from the Advanced model, ensuring that not only does the Advanced SL frame end up lighter than its stablemates (and almost every other frame made) but it also gets stronger, stiffer................faster.
Giant Advanced SL Composite Technology
The highest-performance T-800 raw carbon-fiber material is painstakingly woven in Giant’s own composite factory to create the most cutting-edge frames available today. This is the technology used by Giant’s world championship-caliber racers as they compete in the most demanding events on the planet. These frames feature the most advanced engineering and construction methods, including:
Fusion Process: Advanced SL top-tubes are “grafted” to the seat-tube using filament winding and co-molding. This complex process involves hand-weaving the two tubes together, then re-molding the area under heat and high pressure to unify the junction—resulting in a lighter, stronger junction than with traditional molding.
CNT Technology: Carbon Nanotube Technology refers to a microscopic polymer added to Giant’s custom-blended resin. Acting like miniature buttresses, CNT particles strengthen the layers of composite. Frames featuring CNT are 14 percent more impact-resistant than those without it.
Continuous Fiber Technology: This new manufacturing process allows Giant to construct the front triangle of Advanced SL bicycles with larger, and therefore fewer, sections of composite material. With fewer pieces and junctions, the frames are up to 100 grams lighter and significantly stronger.
The 2012 Giant TCR Advanced SL ISP shatters the mould of every composite bike that came before it. Using Advanced SL-grade composite material and breakthrough manufacturing processes the result is the lightest, stiffest road frame ever produced by Giant. Steering precision is boosted by the new oversize OverDrive 2 head-tube / fork combination for the surest most positive feeling front end ever experienced, allowing the rider to attack into corners at high speed with total confidence. The MegaDrive down-tube and PowerCore bottom bracket improve power transfer and efficiency ensuring every single watt of the riders energy is transformed into forward motion. The integrated seat post (ISP) is also functionally more efficient, eliminating one area of possible issue, reducing weight, giving a more forgiving ride and providing cleaner lines for improved aerodynamics.
For most riders, the level of feedback from the bike and the sheer performance will be far superior to anything they have experienced in the past. It will be a revelation and will bring a new excitement to their riding, encouraging them to ride harder, ride longer, ride better....................win more often.
Fitted out with a Shimano Dura Ace ensemble and Dura Ace wheels and painted in the Rabobank team livery, it wouldn't be too hard to imagine yourself as a Tour de France rider.........................if only you were a bit stronger, a bit fitter, a bit slimmer, a bit younger. Oh well, at leat you can have the bike!
