Giant Glory 2.
2013 will be a big year for Giant in Downhill Mountainbiking if the new Glory range of bikes are anything to go by. Giant have 3 bikes in their Downhill range, showing a real commitment to a segment of the sport often left to the expensive boutique manufacturers. None of the range are what you'd call cheap bikes, but with success and your life equally on the line as you plummet off the side of a mountain, "price and quality" are 2 questions you don't need going through your head. Confidence in your ability and confidence in your bike are paramount if you are to spend some glory time in the Hot Seat. But still, it's nice to know you haven't simply paid for a brand name or marketing hype, you've paid for a quality bike that will take the big hits, handle a crash or two, get big air when needed and above all give the rider a bike that's exciting and fun to ride.
Each of the three 2013 Glory models share the same super tough frame and 8" of front and rear travel. Bikes that World Champion Danny Hart and Red Bull Rampage winner Kurt Sorge use to great success, most recently when Kurt, a fearless big mountain freerider took out the 2012 Red Bull Rampage, one of the world’s most extreme MTB contests over some very intimidating trails.
Every year the Red Bull Rampage terrain gets more extreme with bigger drops, steeper chutes and jaw-dropping jumps. A Giant fan and user for some years, this year Kurt climbed aboard a Glory DH bike and tasted the success, the "glory", and as he said afterward “The courses are getting bigger, so I decided last year to make the switch to the Glory for most of the big-mountain competitions. Plus a lot of the riding I do back home in British Columbia is full-on DH stuff, so the Glory is the perfect bike for me.”
Perfect for Kurt riding in the Red Bull Rampage. Imagine then how perfect it will be for you at the You Yangs or Buller or anywhere else that you decide to throw yourself off the side of a mountain.
The ALUXX frame is a lightweight, super-strong chassis designed with the 8" Maestro suspension system to handle both high speeds and harsh landings and is complimented by the legendary Rock Shox Boxxer forks complete with the robust (and safe) 20mm through axle.
To this sturdy basis of frame and fork are fitted a host of rock solid components which, although not top of the line, are tough and reliable and are fitted so as to keep the bike price within the range of most Gravity riders. After all, if you spend all your money on the bike, how can you afford a ute and a box of beer?
